The present is the source from which we draw the information to construct our life stories. Like a camera that by recording the actual turns it into past, we keep within us what we lose. Situated at this frontier between the disappeared and the not yet realized, we pursue the future; yet just when we think we are grabbing it, it is still the past that surges up. We see what no longer is, what has already gone by. We hear and touch this "real" mirage, we experience it in our very material bodies. Memory and perceptions blend to create our psychological present. Our inner world is nothing but an illusion, a trompe-l'oeil, a remembered reality that works for us, because by existing in the past, we are not confronting our material present, where nothing yet exists and all unceasingly disappears.
Nowadays increasingly effective technologies enable us to project our inner reality onto the outside world, a communal memory which can be re-played at will. This absence with a face reassures us, despite its being a void.
We distance ourselves from the materiality of the real, which reminds us of loss, and let images spread like a virus over the physical world. The artist is the image maker. He was the first to make his mental images enter matter, and thereby veil the real. What can today artist still show without reinforcing this wall of images?
In my work, I have chosen to tie up the image to its referent, so as to reveal the vacuity it is made of. Composed of the very supports that contain them "Containing contained", these images don't attempt to take us away from the real, but on the contrary to lead us back to it.
